Dear Friends,

I hope you and your family have been enjoying the wonderful fall season.

Last weekend, Hindu communities in Scarborough-Guildwood and around the world celebrated the start of Navratri. I wish everyone who celebrated, a Happy Navratri!

Last week, the fall Pollution Price Rebates went out. Canadian families and families in Scarborough-Guildwood will receive hundreds of dollars into their bank accounts! The Pollution Price Rebates helps make life more affordable, gives people an incentive to switch to cleaner options where available, and encourages investments in cleaner options where they don’t exist yet.

We are once again inviting the community to submit photos of Scarborough-Guildwood for the 2024 community calendar. If selected, your photo and name will be featured in the 2024 John McKay community calendar! Learn more below.

Canada Summer Jobs Impact Story: The Leacock Foundation

This year, 84 projects were approved in Scarborough-Guildwood, representing 298 approved jobs for an approved funding amount of $1,315,818.

In communities all across Canada this year, young people have been benefitting from the more than 190,000 jobs the Federal government created for them. This year alone, the program filled more than 70,000 positions. The Leacock Foundation is one of many programs funded by the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) funding in Scarborough!

The Liberal government's other initiatives include the Student Work Placement Program, which helps post-secondary students find paid experience in their field of study. The Youth Employment and Skills Strategy funds organizations that deliver activities and services to help youth overcome barriers and develop their skill set to join the labour force, helping to level the playing field for the next generation of Canada’s workforce.

Now Open: Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) Program Funding!

Just launched! A new call for proposals to fund organizations to deliver a broad range of activities to youth who face barriers to employment.

ESDC’s YESS Program provides funding to organizations to deliver a range of activities that help young people (aged 15 to 30) overcome barriers to employment.

The application period for this call for proposals will close at 3:59 p.m. Eastern Time on November 22, 2023.
